Laboratory of Paleobiogeochemistry
Laboratory of Paleobiogeochemistry was founded in 1965 by the associate member of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences professor K.M.Sultanov. Currently this laboratory is supervised by doctor geological-mineralogical sciences professor S.A.Isayev. The laboratory is engaged in the studies of the interrelation in the system “organism-geochemical environment” and in ecological-geochemical investigations in different regions of Azerbaijan, especially in the Absheron peninsula. In 2007 there was published a monograph “Ecological-geochemical assessment of changes in biosphere in the Absheron peninsula” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of academician G.Aliyev. In 2008 there was published another monograph – “Biochemistry of plants in the Greater Caucasus (throughout Azerbaijan)”. The laboratory organized and held scientific conferences; personnel of the laboratory participated in overseas international conferences (Moscow, Turkey, Iran, Hungary, Thailand, Poland etc.).
The have been determined and verified geochemical effect of activity of Caspian mollusks, biogenic migration and accumulation of some elements as well as peculiarities if their behaviour in orogenic carbonate in the process of sedimentogenesis and diagenesis of sediments. There have been made new conclusions on stratigraphy, paleogeography and ecology of recent and ancient bivalves in the Caspian basin; on biogeochemistry of diagenesis and sedimentogenesis. There have been clarified ecological functions of geological environment in the Absheron peninsula, ecological unfavorable processes and objects; anthropogenic factors changing geosphere and making impact on biosphere; geoecological aspects of activity of natural-technical systems.
