THE MUSEUM OF MINERALS OF AZERBAIJAN

The museum of minerals of Azerbaijan was formed simultaneously with geologo-geographical faculty in 1944. At first the collection consisted of 500 exhibits – minerals, breeds and paleontologic rests. In 1965 in new building of BSU the special premise for a museum of Minerals allocated. Since then fund of a museum from samples taken from republic deposits. At present the museum fund consists of 6000 exhibits. Till 1975 the museum operates on the basis of gathering of samples and arrives in intensive development of material fund exposition themes and collections. At formation of collections, scientific workings out of expositions, election as that for exhibitions the professor-lecturer staff of faculty have enclosed huge work. The museum of minerals of Azerbaijan which has original thematic structure, works according to faculty chairs. The museum plays a huge role in possession of a profound knowledge in the field of geology of students and pupils of higher schools of a city of Baku. In a museum rich collections in mineralogy subjects, cristallography, petrography, minerals, paleontology etc., thematic exhibitions and expositions are organised.
