DEPARTMENT OF MINERALS

The chair of “Economic minerals” was founded in 1958. From the day of the foundation till 1968 it was supervised by prof. S.M. Suleimanov. He played a special role in the training of talented experts in the field of geology.
In different years academicians M.A. Kashkai, A.D.Sultanov, E.Sh.Sikhalibeyli, associate-members of ANAS G.H. Efendiyev, H.S.Mamedov, professors A.Z. Vezirzadeh, G.I. Kerimov, R.M. Gadjiyev, M. D. Zairi, V.I. Aliyev, R.N. Abdullayev et al, worked in the chair. Since 1986 the chair has beeen supervised by associate-member of ANAS, laureate of the State prize, honoured scientist, doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences professor V.M. Baba-zadeh.
The chair educates bachelors in the field of “Geologic survey and exploration of economic minerals deposits, as well as it educates masters in the field of “Geologic bases of the prediction of economic minerals”, “Appraisal and assessment of deposits”, “Geology and exploration of economic minerals deposits”.
The chair educates candidates of sciences in the frame of the post-graduate course on a speciality 25.00.11 “Geology and exploration of solid economic minerals; minerageny”, 25.00.08 “Petrography, volcanology”.

EDUCATION

The chair prepares Bachelors on a speciality 1010100 “Geologic survey and exploration of economic minerals deposits” (full-time and tuition by correspondence; Azerbaijan and Russian departments), as well as Masters on a speciality TM 010002 “Geology and exploration of economic minerals deposits”, TM 010005 “Appraisal and assessment of deposits”, TM 010006 “Geologic bases of the prediction of economic minerals” (full-time and tuition by correspondence, Azerbaijan and Russian departments).

SCIENTIFIC WORK

6 scientific-research works have been performed in the chair on “Strategic classes of mineral-raw material resources (geologic peculiarities, terms of formation, fundamental problems of complex exploration and development)” (2009-2011).

PROJECTS

Personnel of the chair has implemented projects on the base of CRDF and INTAS grants.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Personnel of the chair has implemented scientific-research project on CRDF & INTAS programs. Moreover, there have been established a scientific contact with Moscow State University, Tbilisi State University, scientific-research institutes of Russian Academy of Sciences, Geology Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and with University of Turkish Republic.

Personnel of the chair in 2006-2008 performed two scientific-research works in the trend of “Magmatism and ore formation” on: a “Meso-Cenozoic magmatic complexes in the Lesser Caucasus and related deposits of economic minerals”.
