DEPARTMENT OF CRISTALLOGRAPHY, MINERALOGY AND GEOCHEMISTRY

The department of «Cristallography, mineralogy and geochemistry» was created in 1974. The first chief of the department was professor S.A.Bektashi, subsequently the professor V.I.Aliev, and then professor A.I.Mahmudov.
On department research works in two directions-structural typomorphism, cristallochemistry and structures rock forming minerals, mineralogical and geochemical features of ore deposits of Azerbaijan are conducted. Structures more than 60 minerals and chemical compounds are investigated, the new Си-О radical is found out. For the first time polysomatic series in structures calsium silicates are revealed and allocated parent structural minerals for modelling of structures Ca-ТR of containing silicates. Results of proceedings of employees of department are reflected in 30 monographies, textbooks and manuals. 

The candidate geologo-mineralogical sciences - A.F.Shirinova has established an orientation of  transition in silicates with large kations for the first time . She has modelled structures of minerals and has revealed new structural types in structures of several silicates. She is an author about 30 scientific articles. Articles also were published in authoritative magazines abroad. She is a co-author of the textbook «Crystallography and crystallochemistry». She conducts researches in the field of structural mineralogy successfully.

Employees of department print the works on an International Scientific Journals and an International Congresses, symposiums and conferences.

EDUCATION

At the department bachelors on a speciality «Т010600 Applied geochemistry, mineralogy and petrology» (the Azerbaijan sector) and masters on a speciality «ТМ010007- Applied geochemistry, mineralogy and petrology» (the Azerbaijan sector) are taught.
